You will receive an automatically generated message via email confirming your registration with a link. Follow the directions to activate the account. Login in the same area on the home page of the site, and you will find a host of useful information on all aspects of bushfire fighting.

The Association of Volunteer Bushfire Brigades of Western Australia Inc. is operated by volunteers and represents all volunteer bushfire fighters in Western Australia. There are approximately 25,000 volunteer bushfire fighters in WA and they are organised into approximately 750 brigades. Ninety seven percent of all registered firefighters in Western Australia are volunteers. Volunteer Bushfire Fighters are over ten times larger, in number, than any other emergency services group, and greatly out number approximately 1,000 FESA career fire fighters.

Bushfire brigades are formed and managed by their respective local government authorities (or Shires). The brigades however are also supported by the Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia, (FESA), which manages the funding arrangements, provides technical and operational support as well as the training framework.

Membership of the Association is voluntary and no membership fees are charged. The Association operates on the basis of being there if needed.

Mission

The Association will care for the health, welfare and safety of its members. It will be the leader in the delivery of support services for bush fire brigade members in Western Australia.We will seek to increase the recognition of the worth of our members.The Association will ensure that our members are provided with the skills and support required for them to carry out their tasks.In essence, we aim to ensure that brigade members are suitably equipped and protected when they are protecting their community. We also seek to gain the appropriate recognition for their services.

The Association is committed to the following key functions:

  • To promote and assist with the safety and welfare of emergency service volunteers within the state of Western Australia.

  • To promote public concern, interest and discussion by whatever means, in fire prevention and suppression, and in all matters affecting the interests, safety and welfare of volunteer bushfire brigades and members.

  • To lobby, make recommendations and submissions to Government, State and National bodies, the FESA Board, Local Government Authorities and any other appropriate authorities and bodies.

  • To provide nominations as required for membership to committee's, working parties and groups working on bushfire and related issues.

  • To assist volunteers and brigades in any matter pertaining to their interests or obligations.

  • To maintain a benevolent fund to provide short term financial relief for the families of volunteer bushfire fighter's families in cases of hardship resulting from operational incidents.

Vision

The Association will be the preferred agency for the support of all volunteer bush fire fighters in Western Australia.
